Maxwell Locke & Ritter was honored to host students from Breakthrough Central Texas for the third year in a row, continuing a tradition that reflects our deep commitment to education, mentorship, and community engagement. This year, we welcomed a group of rising sophomores from Del Valle High School to our downtown Austin office for a day of exploration, learning, and connection.

Breakthrough Central Texas provides a path to and through college for students who will be the first in their families to graduate. The organization offers long-term academic and social-emotional support, helping students gain the tools, confidence, and exposure they need to thrive in higher education and beyond.

During their visit, students engaged with team members across ML&R to learn more about the world of accounting and advisory services. From interactive sessions on all of ML&R’s service lines to personal education and career stories from ML&R personnel during a Q&A panel, the day was designed to give students an authentic look at life inside a professional services firm—and inspire possibilities for their own futures.

This year’s visit was especially meaningful for Laura Turner, a Tax Manager at ML&R and graduate of Del Valle High School.

“As a former Del Valle student, it was an honor to speak with these incredible students who reminded me what it was like to be that age and start to plan for the future,” said Turner. “Breakthrough gives them the tools and encouragement to dream big, and I’m grateful ML&R provides a space for them to see what’s possible.”

Hosting Breakthrough students is one of the many ways ML&R invests in the future of Central Texas. We are proud to continue this partnership and support Breakthrough’s mission to create equitable access to college and career opportunities for students across the region.
