Maxwell Locke & Ritter team members recently volunteered with Georgetown Backpack Buddies, helping prepare weekend food packs for local students experiencing food insecurity.
Georgetown Backpack Buddies works to ensure that students in Georgetown ISD have access to food when school meals are not available. The organization provides weekend food packs with the goal of helping students return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn.
During the 2025-26 school year, Georgetown Backpack Buddies distributed more than 46,000 weekend food packs to local school-aged children, setting a new benchmark for the organization.
The 2026-27 school year is already bringing increased demand, making the support of volunteers, educators, donors, and community partners even more important.
Supporting Students Beyond the School Day
Georgetown Backpack Buddies serves students throughout Georgetown ISD and also provides grab-and-go snacks at local high schools and support for other specialty programs.
Each weekend food pack provides more than food. Georgetown Backpack Buddies sees the program as a way to remind children that they are valued, supported, and cared for by their community.
“One of the things that stood out to me was how something as simple as packing a bag can have such a meaningful impact on a child’s weekend,” said Jenel Garoutte. “It was really special to spend time together as a team while supporting an organization that is doing such important work for families in Georgetown.”
Giving Back Through Service
Community involvement has long been an important part of the culture at Maxwell Locke & Ritter. Throughout the year, ML&R team members have opportunities to support nonprofit organizations and community initiatives through volunteer service, charitable giving, and involvement with causes that matter to them.
For the ML&R volunteers who spent time packing food for Georgetown Backpack Buddies, the experience offered an opportunity to contribute directly to an organization addressing an immediate need in the community.
“There is something powerful about seeing people come together around a shared purpose,” said Ali Tebbe. “Georgetown Backpack Buddies is meeting a very real need, and it was meaningful to be able to support that work in a hands-on way. Opportunities like this are a great reminder of how much can happen when a community shows up for one another.”
ML&R is grateful for organizations like Georgetown Backpack Buddies and the volunteers, educators, donors, and community partners who help make their work possible.
