Q&A With Our Newest ML&R Wealth Management Advisor: MaryBeth Meyer, CFP®

We are excited to announce MaryBeth Meyer, CFP®, as our newest ML&R Wealth Management Advisor. She’s enhanced the team with more than 15 years of experience in comprehensive financial planning and wealth management. Her efforts have helped clients navigate complex topics in areas such as asset management, tax, insurance, and estate planning to create strategies for success. We’ve put together an exciting Q&A with MaryBeth below so you can get to know her better while highlighting her investment philosophy, experience, and goals for her future with ML&R.

MaryBeth Meyer riding a bicycleWhat is your background and what attracted you to ML&R Wealth Management?

When I think back, I realize I’ve always been interested in finance. From reading investment books at the library with my dad and opening a Roth IRA at the age of 16, to creating a piggy bank in carpentry class, I had a knack for saving! I followed my interests for financial planning and have now been in the industry over 15 years. At ML&R Wealth Management, the investment philosophy matches my own, and the firm has given me the tools to support and grow our client base. Our affiliate, Maxwell Locke & Ritter, offers additional services, like tax planning and preparation, audits, quality of earnings reports, SOC examinations, and more. At ML&R, we have the resources available for me to expand my skills, grow my practice, remain true to my clients, deepen my connections, and serve the community. I am fortunate to have joined an organization with goals and values that align with my own.

What kind of clients do you typically work with and what sets you apart from other advisors?

In the past, I have worked with clients that have successfully built their wealth but are looking to fine tune their current financial picture to ensure they are on track with their long-term goals. Often a major life or liquidity event triggers clients to reach out and look for guidance. We use this as an opportunity to take a deeper dive, looking at their overall financial well-being, finding ways to capitalize on the opportunity and adjust their goals accordingly. With a goal to bring simplicity to the solutions, I address the various aspects of my client’s financial life using a comprehensive, holistic approach, focusing on areas like investments, insurance, taxes, and estate planning. I work with each of my clients to create a roadmap that provides direction and guidance in navigating their unique journey, making sure they understanding not only where they are, but also where they are headed.

What do you find most fulfilling at ML&R?

The firms’ values align so closely to my own that working here just feels right! Together we serve both clients and the community, with an emphasis on building long-term relationships based on trust. Being a trusted advisor is at the core, and it is important for me to know that my opinions and advice will contribute to our clients’ financial well-being. I try to keep things as simple as possible and have learned that being versatile and adapting to client needs is key. For example, I recently helped a client navigate a liquidity event where there was an opportunity to secure an earlier retirement or choose to reinvest the assets into the business. I was able to provide multiple scenarios and clarify the impact to my client’s overall plan, helping them ultimately make an informed decision that they felt comfortable with.

Keep it simple! Financial success does not have to be complicated. I remember at the beginning of my career I was presenting one of my first “mock” financial plans. Instead of leading with the 100+ page plan that I spent hours preparing, I decided to present just a summary page. I follow this philosophy today, providing a high-level summary to clients to visualize the big picture and allow them an opportunity to dive deeper into certain areas of the plan. The complex questions we address may have many elements and parts, but my goal is to create simple, actionable solutions.

What are you looking forward to in the coming years with ML&R Wealth Management?

Most definitely, being a part of the team! As we celebrate our 25th anniversary this year, we are looking at new ways to build our team so we can better serve clients, expand our service offerings, and utilize everyone’s individual strengths. We have a great team in place that’s eager to keep pace with our vibrant Central Texas community, working collaboratively while assuring that we always put our clients’ needs and goals first. As Austin continues to grow and change, our philosophy holds true, “we’ll figure it out together.”
