Why did you choose to do an internship at Maxwell Locke & Ritter?
I first heard about Maxwell Locke & Ritter from other Longhorns who raved about the firm. After my interview and office tour with the due diligence team, I knew ML&R was the place to be. Everyone has been super welcoming and is talented in their respective fields.
What types of projects have you worked on and what have you learned during your internship?
Fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of deals during my time as a due diligence intern, which has given me a broad overview of a typical transaction from the letter of intent to a proof of cash. I’ve gained much greater knowledge of Excel and a far better understanding of what due diligence entails.
What kinds of feedback have you received throughout your internship?
During my internship, I’ve been able to improve from the continuous feedback from the due diligence team, Sarah Taylor and my mentor, Chris Ramsay. The constructive feedback has fostered my growth both technically and professionally as I’ve learned my strengths and how I can become a stronger performer.
What have you enjoyed most about Maxwell Locke & Ritter?
The culture! Maxwell Locke & Ritter truly has a family-oriented culture. I’ve had the opportunity to interact with team members through many firmwide events and always find everyone welcoming, helpful, team-oriented and lively.
What has been most valuable about your internship?
The knowledge I’ve gained from participating in the daily due diligence team meetings and working on the different facets of a transaction has been by far the most valuable part of my internship.
Are there any ML&R members who have had a special impact on your internship?
Huge shoutout to Cody Strynadka! Cody has been my go-to for questions, especially when it comes to Excel. Chris Ramsay has been terrific as a mentor, providing me continuous feedback during my internship. I appreciate Joe Somogye for coordinating our virtual intern gatherings and for his contagious uplifting personality.
What do you think future interns can do to prepare for their internship?
Expanding your knowledge and proficiency in Excel will allow you to complete day-to-day tasks more efficiently so you can focus on the bigger picture and importance of your work.
What are your long-term career goals and what’s up next for you?
In May of 2022, I’ll complete graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin and plan to become a licensed CPA. This upcoming January, I’ll intern with Deloitte in its Audit & Assurance group in Dallas. As I gain more professional experience, I hope to expand my knowledge and grow professionally. ML&R is a great company to intern for, and I’d love the opportunity to return in the future!
