Name: Bela Nash
University: Texas Christian University
Graduation Date: August 2020
Why did you choose to do an internship at Maxwell Locke & Ritter?
I wanted to learn from a company with an outstanding culture.
What types of projects have you worked on and what have you learned during your internship?
I’ve had the opportunity to help the employee benefits plan team with various work such as populating workpapers, completing disclosure checklists, testing investment balances and sending out investment confirmations to our clients’ employees. I have also had the opportunity to work on school district test work, such as accounts payable and school meal plans.
What kinds of feedback have you received throughout your internship?
I’ve received constructive feedback on where my strengths are the most helpful and how I can utilize them in my future career. I’ve also been praised for my positive attitude and willingness to help whenever anyone in the firm needs it.
What have you enjoyed most about Maxwell Locke & Ritter?
I’ve enjoyed the people the most at ML&R. Everyone is so kind, patient and friendly – it truly fosters my learning. I have especially enjoyed spending time with the other summer interns!
What has been most valuable about your internship?
The most valuable experience from this internship has been networking with people, especially here in Austin. I’ve loved hearing stories from team members about how they got to ML&R, their CPA exam experiences and their employment before coming to ML&R.
Are there any ML&R members who have had a special impact on your internship?
Everyone I’ve worked with has been amazing, but I’ve truly loved working with Kelli Leventhal and my fellow interns. I can’t thank Kelli enough for all she has taught me, and I’m so thankful for the friendships that I’ve developed with my intern team!
What do you think future interns can do to prepare for their internship?
The interns should come in with an open mind. Flexibility is key, especially during these trying times. You never know where the firm will need you, and flexibility is so valuable to any public accounting firm.
What are your long-term career goals and what’s up next for you?
I’ll start working towards my master’s in professional accounting this fall at UT Austin, and then I’ll start a full-time job with KPMG Austin. Long-term, I hope to work for a firm like ML&R (if not ML&R) when I decide I’m ready to start a family.
