Planning for retirement is now more important than ever since retirees are living longer and want to maintain higher standards of living. "My clients aren't spending any less money in retirement than they were before they retired," says Steve Harvey, a partner with Austin-based Maxwell Locke & Ritter LLP who works for the wholly owned subsidiary ML&R Wealth Management LLC. Younger retirees may actually spend more money after leaving work because they have more time to travel or visit the lake house, for example. Then there's the matter of inflation, which Harvey says is one of the overlooked retirement costs.
