Q: What is the Client Portal?
A: The Client Portal is a web site, hosted in Maxwell Locke & Ritter's office, which allows secure and convenient exchange of documents between MLR's accountants and clients.
Q: How does the Client Portal work?
A: If your accountant has a file for your review such as a draft of your tax return, he or she will publish it to your Client Portal. You will receive an e-mail notification with a link to the Portal page. On the page you will see a list of your documents, any of which you can view or download.
Q: Can I send files to my accountant using my portal?
A: Yes. If you add a file to your portal, your accountant will be notified by an automatic e-mail and will be able to access the file you added.
Q: How do I get started with my Client Portal?
A: If you have not already received your login information for your portal, just click the provided link to request it. If you have your login information, just connect to your portal using the provided link and login.

Sending Files to MLR

Q: What is "YouSendIt"?
A: YouSendIt is a service that Maxwell Locke & Ritter uses as an alternative to sending and receiving files via e-mail.
Q: Why would I use YouSendIt instead of e-mailing a file?
A: Some files are too large to e-mail. Many e-mail systems cap attachment size at 20 megabytes or less. There is no fixed limit to the size of files that can be transferred with YouSendIt.
Q: How does it work?
A: To send us a file, simply follow the link to Maxwell Locke amp; Ritter's YouSendIt page. There you will fill out a short form with your information, browse to the file on your computer or network and upload it to us.
Q: How does my file get to the right person at Maxwell Locke & Ritter?
A: In the subject line on the YouSendIt form, include the name of the MLR employee who should receive the file. When our tech support personnel receive the notice that we have a file to download, they will send that information on to the person named in the subject line.
Q: How many files can I send at one time?
A: You can send up to 5 files at a time. If you have more than 5 files to send, you can simply return to the YouSendIt site and repeat the process.

Q: What is Tax Notebook, aka, Online Tax Organizer?
A: Tax Notebook is an alternative to the paper tax organizer that Maxwell Locke & Ritter mails out to our clients at the beginning of the tax season. It provides guided, on-line forms that allow you to provide us the financial information we need to prepare your tax return.
Q: If I used the Tax Notebook last year, can I use the same login information this year?
A: No, you need to get fresh login credentials for the current year.
Q: If I want to complete a Tax Notebook on-line, how can I get my login credentials?
A: To get your user name and password for Tax Notebook, just click the link on this page to complete a short form and your user name and password will be e-mailed to you.
Q: Is the Tax Notebook only for my personal tax data?
A: Yes, Tax Notebook is used to collect the information we need to prepare your personal 1040 federal tax return.
Q: If I use the Tax Notebook, what should I do with the paper organizer I received in the mail?
A: You can use the paper copy of the organizer to organize the paper copies of your W-2s and other forms you need to send to us.
