Kristen attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she attended the Professional Program in Accounting, through which she received both her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Professional Accounting in 1996. After graduation, Kristen worked as an auditor for the Houston office of Ernst & Young. After participating in the audit of a non-profit organization for the first time, she knew she had found her calling. She found the concept of being motivated by something greater than profit very compelling.

A year later, she moved to San Francisco to work for Hood & Strong, a California based public accounting firm, as an audit senior. At Hood & Strong, Kristen focused on audits of non-profits such as community foundations, social service organizations, and other charities. She returned to Austin in 1999 to serve as the accounting manager of a local nonprofit. This experience enabled her to understand the internal day-to-day workings of nonprofits and develop a greater understanding of the issues faced by her clients. In 2001, Kristen accepted the position of audit manager at Montemayor & Associates, an Austin public accounting firm that focused most of its practice on nonprofit clients.

Kristen joined Maxwell Locke & Ritter in 2005 and became a Partner of the firm in January 2009. She has continued achieving her professional goal of serving nonprofits by providing quality audit services and serving as a volunteer advisor on the boards and committees of nonprofits. She lives by Maxwell Locke & Ritter's philosophy: "We care for our clients. We care for each other." This philosophy blends well with her personal philosophy of serving clients to support them in achieving their nonprofit missions. Kristen strives to instill the qualities of integrity, honesty, respect and compassion into both her personal and professional life.
